Alcatel signs OEMS, enters MMS contract

DALLAS-Alcatel announced First Cellular of southern Illinois will become the fist North American service provider to use its Multimedia Messaging Services.

To date, Alcatel has installed its MMS Proxy Relay, WAP Gateway and Push Proxy Platform products in the carrier’s network. With the service, customers will be able to send and receive messages that include animation, color photos, video and audio clips.

Alcatel and Spatial Wireless signed an OEM agreement under which the companies will deploy Distributed Mobile Switching Center (DMSC) solutions that combine the Spatial Atrium portfolio with Alcatel’s Evolium mobile infrastructure family of products.

“Working with Spatial Wireless, the major player in DMSC, is a key step to penetrate the North American market to which Alcatel is strongly committed,” said David Owen, senior vice president of Alcatel’s mobile network activities in North America.

Finally, Alcatel and AirNet Communications Corp. signed an OEM agreement whereby Alcatel will be able to purchase GSM Base Station Subsystem radio products from AirNet for resale to Alcatel’s customers.

The five-year deal applies to AirNet’s products including the AdaptaCell base station and the SuperCapacity base station, which incorporates adaptive array technology, and the AirSite Backhaul Free base station, which allows GSM frequencies to link several base stations together.
