CUPERTINO, Calif.-Internet commerce company Navio Inc. announced it purchased wireless content distribution company DVNO, a further sign of the consolidation in the wireless content space. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Navio manages a service for selling and trading software and physical goods. The company said the addition of DVNO adds a wireless aspect to its business. DVNO manages sales of wireless content including ring tones and games through retail stores, which bypasses the standard method of content distribution through wireless carriers.
“Increasing consumer choice and the number of venues for consumers to buy content ultimately increases revenues for all players in the wireless space,” said Stefan Roever, Navio’s chief executive officer and founder. “Adding DVNO’s marketing and promotional technology allows mobile content providers to reach consumers where they buy-retail stores. It means carriers see an increase in customer satisfaction as well as download times, and Navio adds to the number of transactions we process.”
The move comes on the heels of several other acquisitions, including Square Enix’s $58 million purchase of UIEvolution.
