Commerce to nominate Frink as manufacturing czar

WASHINGTON-Commerce Secretary Donald Evans today said the president intends to nominate Al Frink as the country’s first manufacturing czar, a move that comes as job losses in the United States have become an election-year issue.

Frink, a Hispanic-American, is co-founder and executive vice president of Fabrica International, a manufacturer of carpets and rugs in California.

A Nebraska businessman recently withdrew his name from consideration for the post following revelations that his firm had laid off some American workers and opened a plant in China.
