Verizon Wireless said it plans to relocate its current customer service and customer financial services positions currently in Orangeburg, N.Y., and Morristown, N.J., to a new call center in Wilmington, N.C., and another yet-to-be-determined center in the United States. The carrier said the Wilmington center will employ approximately 1,200 employees, and the company will provide employees affected by the relocation with a chance to secure another position in the company or provide a $10,000, after-tax, lump sum incentive.
“While we could have located our new facility almost anywhere, the people we worked with in North Carolina made the decision easy,” said Eileen Creeden, vice president of customer service in the Northeast for Verizon Wireless. “Unlike other states, including New Jersey, North Carolina provided us with $10 million in incentives and made us feel welcome in every possible way.”
Verizon Wireless also announced plans to invest more than $10 million to expand its information technology center in Orangeburg, and the carrier has secured a $300,000 federal grant to provide additional training for its IT staff based in Rockland, N.Y. In addition, the company said it would add more than 300 full-time customer service positions this year at its Chandler, Ariz., facility.
