Cingular tailors data packages with media content

Cingular Wireless L.L.C. launched a pair of data service packages combining a number of currently offered services with additional content under the new Media name.

The packages include its Media Basic offering, which includes 250 text messages, 50 multimedia messages and 1 megabyte of data transmission through the carrier’s Wireless Internet Express service for $8 per month, and its Media Works package, which includes 1,500 text messages, 200 multimedia messages and unlimited Wireless Internet Express access for $20 per month. Cingular previously charged up to 10 cents for each text message sent, 25 cents for each multimedia message sent, $7 for 1 megabyte of data transmission and $75 for unlimited data transmission.

Cingular also said it has partnered with a number of content providers, including The Weather Channel, CNN, The New York Times, Handango, Match.com and Tele Atlas Traffic, for Media users.

“Cingular is always looking for opportunities to offer consumers simple, affordable plans, like our new Media packages, so they can fully explore and enjoy the wireless environment,” explained Jim Ryan, vice president of data product management and business marketing for Cingular. “Cingular is breaking new ground by bundling each of these compelling services into one package, which will make it easier for customers to use their favorite services-and discover new ones-all from their handset.”
