REDMOND, Wash.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. launched a music recognition service that allows customers to dial #ID from their handsets, and when prompted, hold the phone near a music source for approximately 15 seconds and receive a text message with the name of the song title and recording artist.
The service, which AWS claims is the first of its kind available in the United States and is available on both its TDMA and GSM networks, is provided by Musicphone in cooperation with Shazam Entertainment, which operates a propriety recognition database of more than 1 million recorded songs.
AWS customers can trial the service free the first time, with subsequent use costing $1 each time plus standard airtime charges.
