REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.-Wireless e-mail company Visto Corp. said it plans to extend its legal battle with rival Seven Networks Inc. to include four additional patents.
“Visto continues to put considerable resources into developing unique technologies that are key to the secure synchronization of data and which support Visto’s stature in the mobile messaging market,” said Brian Bogosian, the company’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “Similarly, we will deploy considerable resources to ensure that our laboriously created intellectual property is respected. We believe that Seven has infringed on several of our patents, including our most recently granted one, and we will aggressively pursue any misuse of our intellectual property by Seven or any other companies and individuals.”
Seven said it would fight the litigation and offered a call to the industry to end such patent battles.
“Seven hopes that the wireless community will follow our lead, focus on creating products to benefit customers and not engage in this type of disparaging litigation,” the company said.
Visto is fresh off a major round of $65 million in venture funding. Seven recently announced plans for an initial public offering.
The wireless enterprise space has recently been the scene of several major patent battles, including the ongoing litigation between Research In Motion Ltd. and NTP Inc. However, several fights have been settled out of court.
