AWS helps airlines track mail

REDMOND, Wash.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. is assisting several airlines, including America West Airlines and United Airlines, in tracking mail sent via air through the U.S. Postal Service.

The airlines use mobile devices to scan barcodes on mail that is tracked via AWS’ network when the mail is delivered to an airline, when the mail is loaded onto an aircraft, when transfers take place, and when the mail reaches its final destination airport.

“AT&T Wireless’ nationwide wireless data services provide not just the airline industry but all businesses with the flexibility, reliability and coverage that they demand and need to maintain an advantage in the marketplace,” explained Kent Mathy, executive vice president of AWS’ Business Services Group.

“With our assistance, airlines are able to assure USPS that they are delivering on their commitments to them while helping to provide a superior level of service to their mutual valued customers,” Mathy added.
