The Federal Communications Commission said it received 400 complaints this month from consumers regarding wireless local number portability, which was the lowest number of complaints in a month since WLNP was implemented Nov. 24 and brings the total number of complaints filed with the government agency to 7,040. The FCC noted most of the complaints concerned alleged delays in porting numbers from one wireless carrier to another, with approximately 15 percent of complaints involving porting from wireline to wireless carriers.
AT&T Wireless Services Inc. continues to lead all wireless carriers in the number of complaints with 3,104 through April, followed by Sprint PCS with 1,712, Verizon Wireless with 1,059, T-Mobile USA Inc. and Cingular Wireless L.L.C. with 991 each, and Nextel with 501 complaints. The FCC added that many of the complaints concern more than one carrier, so the total number of complaints received is smaller than the number of times a carrier is mentioned in a complaint.
