RICHARDSON, Texas-NexGen City announced it has developed NexPaq, a voice-over-Internet Protocol, push-to-talk radio handset, for use with its mesh-based NexLink wireless broadband network.
Catering to first responders, the device features an emergency call button, a channel selection switch, and a command and control center to create virtual talk groups. It also supports biometrics so, for example, firefighters’ heart rates can be monitored, and a video camera can be attached to the device.
“The innovative design of our NexPaq communicator reflects extensive feedback from local, state and federal public-safety officials and users, as well as from city IT chiefs across the country,” explained Richard Dwelle, the company’s president. “We couldn’t find any commercially available devices that matched our customers’ needs, so we designed our own from the ground up. We’re on schedule for production unit shipments later this year as we committed when we first announced our communications system in January.”
