Nokia to expand Chilean network

HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia Corp. said it has signed a deal to expand Chile Telefonica Movil’s GSM/EDGE network. Telefonica launched Latin America’s first commercial EDGE network last October in Chile.

The value of the new deal was not disclosed.

Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy GSM/EDGE radio network equipment, including base stations and base station controllers.

“With this expansion, Telefonica Movil will be able to further enhance service to our customers nationwide in Chile and enable us to grow our business as we evolve to more advanced mobile services,” said Oliver Flogel, chief executive officer of Telefonica Movil Chile.
