SINGAPORE-Following a similar launch from U.S. carrier AT&T Wireless Services Inc. last month, Singapore’s MobileOne announced plans to begin tomorrow a music recognition service called Point.
Customers dial 188*, point their handsets to a source of music, and the service will send a text message with the song’s title and artist in less than five seconds. Customers can then download the song as a ring tone if it is available.
Users will be charged 62 cents for every successful request. The AWS service costs $1 for each request after an initial free request.
M1’s service will be the first of its kind in Singapore.
