In preparation for the upcoming May 24 deadline enabling wireless local number portability in markets outside the top 100, Verizon Wireless said it has continued to work with smaller regional wireless service providers in an attempt to ensure they are prepared to comply with the Federal Communications Commission mandate for barrier-free porting.
Verizon Wireless noted it has incorporated lessons it learned from working with large wireless carriers leading up to and since the Nov. 24, 2003, deadline for WLNP implementation in the nation’s top 100 markets into it preparedness planning for the May 24 date.
Industry observers have noted that unlike the original WLNP implementation, which involved mostly larger wireless carriers, the hundreds of smaller carriers that will be effected by the May 24 deadline are less likely to have WLNP procedures in place or will rely on manual processes that could hamper the porting process.
