TOKYO-Masao Nakamura will take over as chief executive of NTT DoCoMo Inc. June 18, when current Chief Executive Keiji Tachikawa will step down after serving three two-year terms.
Nakamura formerly serviced as senior executive vice president of DoCoMo. He started his career at NTT Corp., the parent company of DoCoMo.
According to press reports, Nakamura is expected to be more focused on the domestic market, while Tachikawa oversaw investments in several foreign wireless carriers, including AT&T Wireless Services Inc. The Japanese carrier has since written down its foreign investments.
In other DoCoMo news, the carrier said it will liquidate its Trynotes subsidiary, which operates and maintains music distribution servers. “. It was decided to liquidate the subsidiary due to changes within the business environment, which had made continuation of the business difficult,” DoCoMo said.
The liquidation, expected to be completed by December, will not impact the Japanese carrier’s financial results or forecasts for the fiscal year, DoCoMo said.
