OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-BMW of North America L.L.C. said it is using Sprint PCS’ wireless data network to connect kiosks the company is deploying throughout the country as part of a marketing campaign for the BMX X3 and new 6-Series automobiles and its partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. The kiosks are using the Sierra Wireless AirCard 550s to connect to Sprint PCS’ CDMA2000 1x network.
BMW noted Sprint PCS’ network will allow it to place the kiosks “virtually anywhere” prospects gather from airport terminals to golf courses.
“The development of faster, more reliable wireless technology allows us the freedom to place the X3 kiosks in the most effective spaces and reach a wider audience without the previous constraints of a landline connection,” said Robert Plante, manager of kiosk programs for BMW. “We wanted to create a buzz around the launch of the new X3 and the wireless, mobile X3 kiosks allowed us the opportunity to try something new to target prospective buyers.”
