REDMOND, Wash.-Ahead of the final voting episode of “American Idol,” AT&T Wireless Services Inc. unveiled a new text messaging package allowing customers to send 1,000 text messages and receive unlimited peer-to-peer messages for $20 per month. The company said the package is designed to meet the growing demand of customers.
Recent news reports have noted that “American Idol” voting has been skewed by jammed telephone voting, and text-messaging votes have had a greater chance of getting through.
“Not only are more people using text messaging today, but these individuals are each sending more than we’ve ever seen before,” said Glenice Maclellan, vice president of messaging services at AWS.
