KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.-InterDigital Communications Corp. said it will score an upfront payment of $27 million thanks to an expanded licensing deal with handset maker Sanyo Electric Co. InterDigital’s stock was up slightly after the news to about $17.25 per share.

Sanyo, which previously licensed TDMA technology from InterDigital, said it will license additional second- and third-generation handset technologies from the company.
