Lightbridge conferencing product could offer PTT-like benefits

BURLINGTON, Mass.-Lightbridge Inc. today launched GroupTalk, a new voice conferencing product that alerts and connects members of a conferencing group to a meeting whether they are at their desks, online or using mobile phones.

Going forward, Lightbridge envisions providing the conferencing product to mobile carriers for a conferencing solution that would allow several mobile users to quickly become connected. Lightbridge said such a service would have many characteristics of push-to-talk, while remaining device and carrier agnostic.

By offering the service, according to Lightbridge, service providers can differentiate their offerings and enhance their revenues. GroupTalk allows users to configure specific call groups and allows each member to define default contacts. It uses Integrated Voice Response technologies to initiate calls and bridge together group members. Finally, it features integrated payment, billing and customer care services.

“It’s really built for real people in the real world doing real work,” said Pam Reeve, president and chief executive officer of Lightbridge.

In conjunction with the product news, Lightbridge announced the first deployment of the solution, to power the enhanced voice conferencing function in AOL’s new AIM Business Services. For the deployment, AOL and Lightbridge created a customized user interface that allows AIM users to select people from their buddy lists to invite them to join conferences. AIM users can also add mobile phones and desktop phone contacts to their lists.
