Fans of “The West Wing” TV series with Sprint wireless service will be able to participate in text messaging polls due to a new offering from cable channel Bravo and wireless messaging company GoldPocket.
Under the offering, “The West Wing” re-broadcasts on Bravo will feature on-air poll questions, and Sprint users will be able to text their answers to the Bravo short code (27286). Results will be tabulated in real time, and users will be able to see how their opinions compare with those of other fans.
“We have been using GoldPocket’s EM Connect to reach out to our audience, so allowing viewers to interact with us via their Sprint PCS phones seems like a natural extension,” said Stephen Andrade, NBC’s vice president of interactive development. NBC is the company behind “The West Wing.” “This gives our audience the ability to directly send us their feedback on specific questions related to ‘The West Wing.’ We’re anxious to hear what they have to say.”
The offering is just one of many in the growing market for interactive TV campaigns. Perhaps the most notable is AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’s deal with reality TV show “American Idol” to promote its text messaging services.
