Fastmobile, Spectel partner for PTT interoperability solution

CHICAGO-Mobile instant communications provider Fastmobile Inc. reported a development partnership with integrated conferencing solutions provider Spectel to develop interoperability between Spectel’s MobileConneXion mobile conferencing solution and the push-to-conference and instant-message capabilities of Fastmobile’s Fastchat service. The companies noted the agreement will allow Push to Talk over Cellular users to locate and engage colleagues in a push-to-conference voice session from any Fastmobile-enabled PTT device.

“We are delighted by what this combination delivers to our mobile operator customers,” said Kang Lee, president and chief executive officer of Fastmobile, which launched its platform-based Fastchat service last spring. “This partnership creates a rich, differentiated service offering with strong end-user appeal within both the enterprise and consumer markets, fueling incremental revenue growth in data and voice services.”

Fastmobile has announced a number of partnerships this year with both carriers and infrastructure providers, including Indian mobile operator Hutch and Samsung Electronics Co., to implement its PTT platform.

In unrelated PTT news, Mobile Tornado, which provides a PTT solution that works on both GSM- and CDMA-based networks, said it has launched a campaign targeting China as part of its global expansion strategy.

“It is important for us to target this market at an early stage,” explained Stuart Kelly, vice president of sales and alliances at Mobile Tornado. “We have been working in the Asia [Pacific] regions for over a year, and it is one of the most advanced markets for push to talk.”

A number of PTT platform providers, including Motorola Inc. and Nokia Corp., have also recently reported plans to target the potentially lucrative Chinese market.
