TelePlus Enterprises Inc.’s TelePlus Wireless Corp. subsidiary announced it will launch the TelePlus mobile virtual network operator to run on AT&T Wireless Services Inc.’s network via an agreement with Oregon-based Consumer Cellular Inc., an aggregator of AWS.
TelePlus said it will sell TelePlus-branded wireless phones to dealers and distributors in certain U.S. cities within the next 45 days. Wireless plans will include unlimited nights and weekends, free long-distance within the United States and no contracts.
“This is an important step in a series of milestones crossed by TelePlus Wireless over the last few months in developing its MVNO,” said Marius Silvasan, chief executive officer of TelePlus. “We expect TelePlus to offer consumers quality handsets at affordable prices. We also expect the increase in wireless penetration in the U.S. primarily in the ethnic and youth market to positively influence the implementation of our MVNO.”
TelePlus currently offers wireless products and service in TelePlus retail stores in Canada. It plans to continue to expand its store-based strategy there, but has no plans to introduce MVNO services there.
