ORLANDO, Fla.-Cingular Wireless L.L.C. said it has completed its $3.4 billion GSM technology rollout across the country with the recent launch of services in the Florida Panhandle. The carrier originally initiated its nationwide GSM technology overlay of its legacy TDMA network in 2001.
Cingular added that it plans to roll out high-speed UMTS-based services as part of its previously announced plans set for later next year in “some major Florida cities” beginning in 2006. UMTS will provide data throughput speeds up to 384 kilobits per second.
