CHICAGO-U.S. Cellular Corp. posted a 10-percent increase in total revenues during the second quarter from $645.9 million last year to $712.2 million this year, not including its Florida, Georgia and south Texas operations, which the carrier sold to AT&T Wireless Services Inc. earlier this year. U.S. Cellular said those markets contributed nearly $43 million of service revenues during the second quarter of 2003.
Net income also increased from a loss of $1.7 million during the second quarter of 2003, a loss of 2 cents per share, to a return of $38 million this year, or a return of 44 cents per share.
U.S. Cellular also reported that it added 137,000 net customers during the second quarter compared with 103,000 subscriber additions last year, and it ended the second quarter with nearly 4.7 million total subscribers. Postpaid customer churn remained at 1.5 percent, while average revenue per user increased slightly from $47.38 last year to $47.79 this year.
