Senator criticizes Bush over Adelstein’s FCC nomination

WASHINGTON-A senator charged Thursday morning that the Bush White House was not playing by the rules by refusing to send the nomination of FCC Commission Jonathan Adelstein to the Senate for its consideration. Adelstein’s current term at the Federal Communications Commission expired June 30, 2003.

The Democrat must leave the FCC when Congress adjourns this fall if he is not renominated by President George W. Bush and confirmed by the Senate.

The comments from Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) came during a meeting of the Senate Commerce Committee, where the committee was expected to consider the nomination of two new members of the Federal Trade Commission. At press time, that vote had yet to occur.
