CLEVELAND-SBC Communications Inc. launched its FreedomLink Wi-Fi service at Cleveland’s Hopkins International Airport, providing high-speed wireless Internet access to the facility’s gates, ticket counters and baggage claim areas using more than 30 access points. In addition to providing access to passengers with Wi-Fi-enabled devices, the service will also be available through Neptune Networks kiosks throughout the airport.
“In providing this service to our customers we further solidify Hopkins’ position as one of the top airports in our nation,” said John Mok, director of port control at the airport. “We applaud SBC for making this possible without expense to the airport.”
SBC noted the launch was part of its plans to provide more than 20,000 hot spot locations by the end of 2006 and eventually work with its wireless subsidiary Cingular Wireless L.L.C. to provide wireless services using both wide area and local area networks. SBC also announced a series of reciprocal Wi-Fi roaming agreements earlier this week with Concourse Communications, Mexican telecommunications provider Telmex and Wise Technologies, as well as in-bound roaming agreements with GoRemote, iPass and Syniverse Technologies.
