Dobson Communications Corp.’s Cellular One from Dobson Cellular Systems unveiled its Merge device and service offering that allows customers to place their handsets into Merge devices and make or receive calls from any home phone while using their wireless plans for the service, similar to Cingular Wireless L.L.C.’s FastForward offering.
Dobson noted one of the main advantages of the service is that it allows customers to take advantage of their wireless service plans’ unlimited night and weekend calling minutes or free long distance from their wireline phones.
The device is currently available for select Motorola Inc. handsets with adapters for additional models expected to be available soon. Unlike Cingular’s FastForward service, Dobson said its Merge service does not require a monthly fee once the device is purchased.
