Verizon Wireless, Motorola sign three-year base station contract

BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless signed a three-year general purchasing agreement with Motorola Inc. to deploy CDMA2000 1x radio base stations, Internet Protocol call processing platforms and an advanced messaging solution in a number of markets, including Denver; Minneapolis; Sacramento, Calif.; and the Carolinas.

Financial terms of the deal were not released.

Analysts had previously noted that Motorola currently supplies network infrastructure to approximately 15 percent of Verizon Wireless’ footprint.

Verizon Wireless signed a $5 billion network infrastructure deal earlier this month with Lucent Technologies Inc. to expand the carrier’s network capacity and coverage, including the recently announced launch of 1x EV-DO technology.
