FCC’s 24 GHz auction nets $216,000

WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission’s auction of 24 GHz licenses started and ended Wednesday after four rounds netting more than $216,000 for seven licenses in the western United States.

First Avenue purchased the Denver-Boulder license for $62,400.

Napoleon Communications L.L.C. bought four licenses covering Phoenix; Albuquerque, N.M.; Reno, Nev.; and Las Vegas, bidding nearly $105,000.

Lynch 3G Communications Corp. agreed to pay $49,000 for two licenses covering Davenport, Iowa/Moline, Ill., and Buffalo-Niagara Falls, N.Y.

The FCC was not surprised that so few licenses sold because the amount of the upfront payments indicated that no more than half of the 880 available licenses could be won. The agency will schedule an auction for the remaining 873 licenses in the future.
