LAKE CHARLES, La.-Sprint PCS affiliate US Unwired Inc. reported 17,358 net customer additions during the second quarter of 2004 compared with 8,878 new subscribers added during the second quarter of 2003. The carrier noted it finished the first half of this year with 668,705 total subscribers, including 130,338 resale customers.
Customer churn dipped slightly from 3 percent last year to 2.9 percent this year, while average revenue per user dropped from $54.59 during the second quarter of 2003 to $54.22 this year. Cash cost per user improved from $37.36 last year to $31.47 this year with the cost per gross addition increasing from $368 last year to $391 this year.
Total revenues increased more than 10 percent year over year from $133.7 million during the second quarter of 2003 to $147.9 million this year due to increases in both subscriber and roaming revenues. Net losses also increased from a loss of $35 million last year, or a loss of 27 cents per share, to a loss of $75 million this year, or a loss of 53 cents per share.
