TOKYO-NTT DoCoMo Inc. said its net profit dropped 13 percent for the fiscal first quarter due to strong competition in the Japanese wireless market.
DoCoMo posted a net profit of about $1.52 billion compared with $1.7 billion last year. The company had increased expenses from driving customers to its third-generation FOMA service, which now has more than 5 million subscribers. The company also launched flat-rate pricing, reducing its revenues.
The carrier predicted its operating revenues and income are still in line with its previous estimates for the full year.
