MINNEAPOLIS-Verizon Communications Inc. and finger-based biometric identification and wireless public-safety solutions provider BIO-key International Inc. said they received a contract to build a regional mobile data network on Massachusetts’ Cape Cod for law enforcement agencies using Verizon Wireless’ CDMA2000 1x-based network.
The network will be hosted by the Harwich Police Department and will allow both the Harwich and Brewster police departments to access the wireless network using laptops and handheld devices running BIO-key’s PocketCop solution.
The two companies announced a similar agreement with the Brookline, Mass., Police Department, which has deployed wireless modems in 22 laptop computers in police cruisers and 14 handheld computers for officers on foot patrol.
Financial terms of the deployments were not released.
