RESEARCH TRIANGLE, N.C.-Western Wireless Corp. has selected Harris Corp. to supply radios to expand its network capacity.
The provider of rural wireless communications will use Harris’ Constellation radios, which feature the high-capacity 4xDS3 interface, in an attempt to grow its network and increase its current customer base of 1.2 million. Western Wireless is a roaming carrier for most major cellular operators and provides services under the brand names of Cellular One and Western Wireless.
“Our subscriber base and network traffic are growing rapidly and we provide roaming service for several national carriers, so the ability to achieve our buildout milestones on time was a key factor in selecting Harris,” said Jerry Baker, senior vice president of engineering and technical operations at Western Wireless. “By bringing various systems online quickly and within budget, Harris makes it easy for us to meet our commitments to other carriers.”
