TORONTO-Nortel Networks Ltd. has announced two agreements about mesh technology, emphasizing the increasing profile of the technology around the world.
Nortel entered into agreements with PacketHop Inc. and National Taiwan University. Nortel and PacketHop have agreed to market a mesh solution targeting the $11 billion homeland security market with secure deployments among law enforcement and public-safety agencies.
“The broadband wireless capabilities of the combined solution address the critical need for real-time, multimedia, mission critical collaboration within the various agencies and first responders during an emergency event,” said both companies.
The NTU is collaborating with Nortel and eASPNeT Taiwan Inc. to trial mesh technology to extend the reach of wireless local area networks technology for enterprise and end users with indoor and outdoor access.
Motorola Inc. signed a deal to distribute Mesh Networks Enabled Architecture product line through its sales force and reseller network.
“The Mesh-enabled solution’s self-forming networking enables first responders to create an instant incident data communications system by simply turning on their radios,” said Nick Rendone, Motorola vice president, wireless broadband solutions operations.
Motorola Inc. also has teamed with MeshNetworks Inc. in another mesh-technology announcement this week.
In other PacketHop news, the company raised $10 million in Series B financing to put its software on the market in the first quarter of 2005.
