Software allows Java providers to debug handset apps

TOKYO-A new mobile software solution from Aplix Corp. and Motorola Inc. allows Java developers and content providers to debug an application as it runs on a handset.

The solution, based on Aplix’s JBlend platform, supports the KVM Debug Wireless Protocol (KDWP) and features a proxy that allows for communication between the phone and the Integrated Development Environment (IDE). Both features allow developers to get real-time information directly from the device.

“Motorola’s focus on J2ME developers is fundamental to the success of Java on wireless devices,” said Ryu Koriyama, chairman and chief executive officer of Aplix. “We share the same vision of the importance of developers in the Java community, and we are pleased to work with Motorola to make our KDWP implementation available to the market worldwide.”

Currently, Motorola’s C380, C650, E398, V80, V220, V300/V303, V400, V500/V525, V600 and T725 are shipping with the solution. Upcoming phones expected to also include the solution are the Motorola A630, C975, E1000, V180, V400p, V975 and RAZR V3.
