WASHINGTON-The Bush administration said it will continue to pressure South Korea to further liberalize the standard for 2.3 GHz portable Internet.
Late last month, the South Korean government agreed to a standard for a new service-WiBro-which incorporates an international standard currently being crafted. But that standard, 802.16, likely would not have equipment when three licenses are issued early next year and would effectively lock out U.S. companies ArrayComm Inc. and Flarion Technologies Inc.
“It’s a sub-optimal solution,” said a U.S. trade representative official.
