OVERLAND PARK, Kan.-Sprint PCS released download figures for a number of its top-selling music ring tones, showing four tones from Beyonce Knowles’ “Dangerously in Love” album have cumulatively sold more than 1 million downloads. The album has sold 7 million copies worldwide.
Other top-selling music ring tones include more than 500,000 downloads from 50 Cent’s “Get Rich” album in less than six months; more than 500,000 downloads of Petey Pablo’s “Still Writing in My Diary: 2nd Entry” and “Diary of a Sinner: 1st Entry;” and more than 500,000 downloads from Lil’ Flip’s album “U Gotta Feel Me.”
Sprint PCS noted it offers more than 1,000 music tones that sound like actual songs, and it sold more than 20 million ringers and screen savers to PCS Vision customers last year.
In other ring-tone news, Virgin Mobile USA and Universal Music Group announced their second exclusive mobile music deal. Virgin Mobile will offer its customers “first dibs” on access to Superphonic, or real-music ring tones, from highly anticipated debut rap albums “The Hunger For More” from Banks and “Straight Outta Cashville” from Young Buck.
For the next three months, Virgin Mobile will be the only company to offer downloadable real tones for songs from the Banks album, and following in September, Virgin Mobile customers will have exclusive access to real tones for songs from Young Buck’s album.
