TOKYO-Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. will deploy cellular devices that use Royal Philips Electronics’ Near Field Communication chip solutions.
An NFC-enabled mobile phone could connect wirelessly with an NFC-enabled personal computer or television to transfer digital pictures or other data. It is hoped NFC eventually will enable mobile phones to be used for secure wireless payment transactions, for secure access to buildings and public transportation, and to store digital rights.
“Joining forces with Philips for the further development of NFC-enabled devices is part of Samsung’s commitment to change the way information and services are paid for, distributed and accessed by all consumers,” said J.K. Shin, senior vice president of the research & development team at Samsung.
Nokia Corp. has also adopted NFC technology for its mobile phones.
