WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission said Jane Mago, chief of the Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis and a long-time telecom regulator, is leaving the agency at the end of the month to become senior vice president-general counsel of the National Association of Broadcasters.
FCC Chairman Michael Powell said Linda Blair, currently deputy chief of the Enforcement Bureau and deputy director of the commission’s Homeland Security Policy Council, will serve as acting chief of OSP.
Mago was well regarded professionally in telecom policy circles during her more than two decades of service at the FCC.
“In the course of our work, we occasionally encounter that government professional who truly personifies the ideals of public service: integrity, devotion, intellectual rigor, compassion, open-mindedness,” said Powell. “Jane Mago captures that ideal. She has been a tireless advocate for the public interest in every role during her 26 years at the agency. If a government agency can be said to have a soul, Jane Mago is a part of the commission’s. She will be missed by all of us as a colleague, confidante, and friend. We wish her well.”
Powell expressed confidence in Blair’s ability to assume the post vacated by Mago.
