N.Y. TV station uses broadband wireless

NEW YORK-Redline Communications announced that New York’s Channel 13/WNET television station is using broadband wireless for two-way broadcast applications between remote sites and its production studios in downtown Manhattan as part of a pilot program.

Redline is planning with WNET to build a 23-mile broadband wireless link between the station’s production office and a sister studio in Long Island, and similar links may be used to facilitate distance learning for public schools in the area.

“The ability to deliver video feeds over broadband wireless has far-reaching implications for the broadcast industry,” said Keith Doucet, vice president of marketing and product management at Redline. “It provides a much more cost-effective alternative to electronic news gathering vehicles, while enabling real-time, uninterrupted deliver of crucial video and audio feeds from fixes access points.”
