SEOUL, South Korea-LG Telecom offered an auto navigation service that provides information on nearby traffic, businesses and restaurants to drivers via their handsets. The global positioning system-based service, named ez Drive, will allow customers to find the fastest routes to their destinations and provide traffic updates.
Korea’s No. 3 carrier said it is working to connect the navigation services with location-based data on gas stations, restaurants, public facilities and other venues.
The carrier will charge a monthly rate of $5.23 for the service and an additional $1.74 for the traffic-warning system. Subscribers must purchase GPS receivers for the service, which the carrier will sell for $83.50.
“Our car navigation product has the advantage in price competition compared to those of our rival companies,” said Bae Sung-chul of LG’s mobile data business team.
