SUNNYVALE, Calif.-Tropos Networks announced it will unwire public-safety agencies in Oklahoma City, marking its largest Wi-Fi deployment to date.
The deployment will cover more than 400 square miles, enabling public-safety agencies, including police, fire and EMS, to access headquarters while in the field. The network installation is part of a $22 million upgrade the city has initiated for its public-safety information technology and communication systems.
In addition to the network deployment, Tropos released the 4210 mobile node, which will be installed in Oklahoma City public-safety workers’ vehicles to bolster coverage to the network and to extend the mesh network beyond the fixed infrastructure.
Tropos’ hot-zone networks have been installed in cities including Nantucket, Mass.; Corpus Christi, Texas; Milpitas, San Mateo and Half Moon Bay, Calif.; Baton Rouge and New Orleans, La.; and Chaska, Minn.
