Autodesk launches location app. for vertical markets

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.-Autodesk Inc. this week launched the Autodesk Mobile Resource Manager, a location-based application that allows businesses in various vertical markets to locate, manage and communicate with their mobile workforces and assets.

Autodesk is targeting small- to medium-sized businesses of five to 100 mobile workers that use global positioning system-enabled handsets with the solution. Autodesk said that typically, one administrator per office will be responsible for signing up users, deciding who can be tracked and when, and viewing the workers or assets using the Web-based application.

The administrator is able to view locations of resources and determine when a resource is closest to a specific site, pan, zoom and find, and view maps from country to street level, on a scheduled or instant basis. To send or update job details, the application allows for two-way text messaging, group text messaging and e-mail attachments. The application also has reporting capabilities that include job status reports, route histories, and group or individual reports, available in multiple formats.

The same version of Mobile Resource Manager, slightly customized, can be used for multiple vertical markets, including transportation, sales and service, manufacturing, utilities and construction.
