NUREMBERG, Germany-Coding Technologies, which provides audio compression for mobile communications, said the Third-Generation Partnership Project has standardized its aacPlus audio codec.
The codec currently is used for the music download services of European carriers O2 and Vodafone, and it is widely adopted in digital broadcasting and Internet streaming applications, according to the company.
The aacPlus product combines MPEG Advanced Audio Codec with Coding Technology’s Spectral Band Replication technology. The product delivers streaming and download 5.1 surround at 128 kilobits per second, CD-quality stereo at 48 kbps and stereo at 32 kbps. It is targeted at 3G and Wi-Fi audio, Internet audio, digital radio, digital satellite and cable and portable players.
