AWS replaces problem Motorola phones with new models

REDMOND, Wash.-AT&T Wireless Services Inc. launched a trio of new GSM quad-band Motorola Inc. handsets that are set to replace the previously offered V600 model that has reportedly been plagued with technical glitches.

The new handsets include the Motorola V505, V220 and V180, which all include MP3 ring tones, photo caller identification, built-in speakerphones and multimedia messaging service capabilities. The V505 and V220 add integrated cameras and video playback capabilities, while the V505 also includes Bluetooth technology.

The V180 retails for $140, the V220 for $200 and the V505 for $320 before mail-in rebates and instant activation credits.

Cingular Wireless L.L.C. phased out its V600 models, citing RF issues that reportedly did not affect similar models sold by AWS and T-Mobile USA Inc. T-Mobile USA continues to sell the V600 for $300 as well as the V180 for $120, while Cingular offers the V400 for $200, as well as the V180 for $90 and V220 for $130.<
