SAN FRANCISCO-The number of wireless subscribers grew by an estimated 14.5 percent during the past 12 months, while the average price of local monthly service continued to hold steady, according to the Semi-Annual Wireless Industry Survey by the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association.
There are more than 170 million subscribers now in the country.
“Wireless communication continues to grow at a rapid pace,” said Steve Largent, CTIA president. “Not only are more people choosing to join the wireless network, but those customers are also choosing to spend more time on the expanding wireless network.”
He noted that local monthly bills have fallen by 15.6 percent.
The study also showed capital investment in networks topped $156 billion, a cumulative increase of 17 percent with 27,000 cell sites constructed during the past year.
“This is an industry that is serious about re-investing in its core business,” said Largent.
