Nokia Corp. said deals with Visto Corp. and Good Technology Inc. to expand the messaging options on its handsets. Nokia has a similar agreement with Visto and Good rival Research In Motion Ltd.
Nokia signed a deal to extend Visto’s e-mail push solution into two of its mobile phones. The two devices, the Nokia 9500 Communicator and Nokia 9300, will be available in the first quarter of next year and run on POP3, Microsoft Outlook/Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes/Domino servers, said Nokia.
The solution provides instantaneous and automatic two-way delivery of e-mail, contacts and calendar updates on 2.5- and third-generation mobile devices.
“We are seeing strong interest from global operators, partners and users for push-based mobile e-mail/PIM solutions on devices that provide phone and PDA-like functions, in an easy-to-use format, and from the recognized leaders in the market,” said Brian Bogosian, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Visto Corp.
Visto said it currently supports the Nokia’s Series 60 mobile devices and will back the new 3G-enabled Nokia 6630 early next year.
Nokia also agreed to extend Good Technology’s wireless messaging and data access to its enterprise mobile phones. The solution, known as GoodLink, provides mobile users with secure, two-way access to Microsoft Exchange-based e-mail, contacts, calendar, notes and tasks, said Good, which claims partnerships with two major U.S. operators as well as Orange and O2. It also said it partners with more than 3,000 enterprises.
“With mobile professionals worldwide numbering more than 30 million, and rising, implementing mobile e-mail for organizations is a question of when and how, not if,” said both companies.
