Motorola begins pre-holiday phone blitz

Motorola Inc. announced it will sell its new clamshell V265 through Verizon Wireless. The news comes on the heels of several new third-generation devices Motorola said it will sell through Vodafone Group plc-all part of the company’s promise to release 20 new devices during the fourth quarter and the critical holiday season.

“We have the right products,” said Ron Garriques, Motorola’s new executive vice president in charge of phones. “We continue to be on plan.”

Motorola’s V265 features an integrated digital camera, support for downloadable applications and a built-in speakerphone, and will sell for $100 after rebates.

“The Motorola V265 is going to be a homerun with consumers,” said John McNulty, Motorola’s vice president of sales operations for mobile phones. “It expands options for Verizon Wireless customers and rounds out the Motorola handset line-up, which is led by the very popular V710.”

Separately, Motorola announced it would add three new 3G devices-the V980, C980 and E1000-to its line-up of phones for sale through Vodafone. Motorola’s Garriques said the devices further the company’s leading position in 3G handsets. Motorola has sold more than 1 million 3G phones through the likes of Vodafone, Orange and Hutchison.

Motorola promised to sell 20 new devices during the fourth quarter and has so far released 10. Garriques said the other 10 are on track for an on-time release and that most would be available for the holidays.
