Cingular Wireless L.L.C. and Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. Inc. unveiled a mobile picture postcard application.
The application, which Cingular said is the first of its kind, allows users to create personalized Fujifilm photo postcards and send them to anyone in the country via U.S. mail directly from their handsets. Cingular customers can pick a postcard design, incorporate a photo and personal message, address it and send.
Consumers can download the application free; the cost to create and mail the postcard is $2, including postage. Charges will be added to a monthly Cingular bill.
Summus, a Raleigh, N.C.-based mobile developer, joined with Fujifilm in producing the application.
“The launch of the Mobile Postcard application is a perfect example of how the trend toward convergence of the camera and mobile phone can both drive revenue and provide consumers with a new value-added service,” said Gary Ban, Summus’ chief executive officer. “Our shared vision to bring the most powerful and innovative branded applications to the consumer wireless market reinforces our relationship with both Fujifilm and Cingular Wireless.”<
