Wi-Fi hardware revenue sees 9% annual growth

LONDON-Wi-Fi hardware revenue jumped 9 percent to $784.5 million, and units shipped rose 31 percent between the second quarter of last year and the same period this year, according to a report by Infonetics Research.

“Wi-Fi switch revenue and ports grew phenomenally in the third quarter (80 percent and 127 percent respectively),” said Richard Webb, directing analyst at Infonetics and author of the report. “While this is in large part due to low base figures from the previous quarter, this young market segment has great potential.”

The report said more than 84 million hardware units will be shipped in 2007, amounting to a five-year compound annual growth rate of 37 percent, which is 252-percent higher than 2003.
