HAMBURG, Germany-CoreMedia will provide digital rights management technology for Vodafone Group plc’s new third-generation data offerings, the companies announced.
CoreMedia’s infrastructure, which was developed in accordance with the Open Mobile Alliance’s DRM specifications, will offer differing levels of protection for the delivery of music, video and other content through Vodafone’s data service, Vodafone live! The carrier rolled out the 3G offering in 12 European countries and Japan earlier this month.
“Analysts expect data traffic and premium content revenues to grow to around $40 billion in 2007 once a viable DRM infrastructure has been put in place,” said Soren Stamer, chief executive officer of CoreMedia AG.
The announcement appears to mark the largest contract yet for CoreMedia, a German company that has also sold licenses to Deutsche Telekom, O2, Nokia Corp. and T-Mobile.
